Self-employed I assist clients at many levels in reaching their goal. They may be foreign or American, of all ages. Typically I assist grads in elite programs seeking a secure and remunerative foothold in an industry: perhaps it is IT, Architecture, Finance. These candidates emerge from the most high level programs, at Columbia and other great programs. Some are well-educated, even superiorly educated in their home countries, and Ivy diplomas merely burnish an already excellent vitae. So the matter calls for careful culling and "presentation," style over content. I am a former performer, actor, director and current photographer and screen writer, a teacher of English lit and composition in three major universities, an honor student at Columbia myself. So I cleave to a practice that makes simple successes out of simple errors: for example, I demand more white space in resumes. Seem obvious? I demand a knowledge of the interviewer's culture and viewpoint. Whether a Communist Party Youth Group is really a threat to the nation or merely a kind of scouting group, it must not appear in a resume addressed to a conventional US corporate HR or CEO personality. Appearance at interview, preparation and all written assignment follow the same logic. My clients are assumed to be worthy not only of consideration but of landing the position that each seeks.
